S&S Fire Suppression Systems is nearing the completion of modifications to 800 Westchester Avenue (formerly the General Foods Building) in Rye Brook, NY.  The buildng was purchased by the RPW Group in 2005 and has gone through an extensive renovation.  As part of the project, the fire sprinkler and standpipe systems were completely upgraded for the office complex and garage.

800 Westchester Avenue is now a multi tenant building containing a large dining area and physical fitness center, both of which are available to tenants.  S&S is proud to have worked with RPW to rejuvenate one of Westchester County's landmark buildings.

Fire Sprinkler Incentive Act

On March 29, 2007, Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI) reintroduced the Fire Sprinkler Incentive Act of 2007.  This bill, which will be identified as HR 1742, has been in front of Congress before garnering a great deal of support in the House and Senate.  Essentially the bill creates tax incentives to owners who retrofit their buildings with automatic fire sprinklers by reducing the tax depreciation time for non-residential buildings.

The effectiveness of sprinklers is a accepted by fire departments and building officials throughout the country.  This bill should gain the support of the fire protection industry and the general public.  The passage of this bill would lower the initial costs by allowing owners to fully depreciate the costs in 5 years. As a side benefit owners would benefit from long term savings by reducing fire insurance premiums over the life of the building.
