Sprinklers Save Warehouse

This is the kind of news you will not find on TV.  On November 10th, 2008, a furniture warehouse in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, was saved by the fire sprinkler system.  Lt. Sam Vest of the Myrtle Beach Fire Department said that the warehouse's sprinkler system operated within minutes and extinguished the fire.  "Sprinkler systems are the best thing in the world," he said.

The TV news did cover the furniture store fire in June of 2008.  That fire in Charleston, South Carolina took the lives of nine firefighters.  The store did not have a sprinkler system installed.  In this instance the old saying is true that "No news is good news."

Sprinkler system saves retail building

On October 7, 2006, 12:30 a.m., the Greenwich, Connecticut, Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at the new Fila’s on Greenwich Avenue, then under renovation.

The Fire Department found the fire was extinguished by the sprinkler system recently installed by S&S Fire Suppression Systems. The intense heat set off three sprinkler heads which extinguished the fire. The Fire Department was able to shut off the system and begin their investigation.

And there's more.......

In September of 2008 there were two fires in Las Vegas casinos less than 12 hours apart.

On September 23rd at around 6:00 AM there was a fire in a guest room at the Bellagio Resort.  The sprinkler system activated and extinguished the fire.  No one was seriously injured.

On the evening of the same day there was a fire in a Mechanical Room at the Venetian Resort.  Again, the sprinkler system activated and extinguished the fire.  No one was injured and there was no need to evacuate the resort.

These two incidents, which essentially went unreported in the news, are in clear contrast to the fire at the MGM in 1980 when 87 people died and more than 600 were injured.  There were no sprinklers in the MGM at the time.
